This article only applies to customers connected to Sage 50 (UK version). You also need to be a Compleat company administrator to carry out these steps.
A posting period is the amount of time allocated to process invoices.
If your company has a posting period set up, you might occasionally receive an invoice to process after the posting period has closed. In which case, the invoice will fail to post to your finance system & will go straight to the Posting failures tray.
An error message like this appears when you select the invoice:
In the above example, an invoice has come into Compleat in December, but is dated in November. All reports for November have been finalized & the posting period is now closed, but the invoice is sitting in the Posting Failures tray & still needs processing.
This is easily fixed. Follow the steps below to see how to post an invoice outside the posting period.
1. Adjust the Posting Date behavior setting
You need to adjust a behavior setting so that you can post an invoice outside a posting period.
This setting will mean that all future invoices that are processed after the posting period has closed can be posted to your accounting software. If you only want this setting to apply for one invoice only, simply change the behavior setting back to its original configuration after you've retried posting the invoice.
- On the homepage, click Configuration.
- Click Company management.
- Go to Behavior Settings.
- Find Posting Date, & click Change.
- Select one of the following actions from the drop-down:
Force to current period - The invoice will be posted on the first date of the current period (the current period is the period today's date falls in).
Force to next open period - The invoice will be posted on the first date of the next available posting period. For example, if you do this in January & the posting period for December is still open, the invoice will post with the date of 1st December.
- Click Save.
- That's sorted.
You're ready to try reposting the invoice.
2. Repost the invoice
Once you've updated the posting period behavior setting, go to the invoice in the Posting failures tray, & click the sync icon in the tray tab to retry posting.
The invoice moves to the Approved tray & is posted to your finance system.
